If you have been with me or doing any yoga
in Melfort, it has historically been done in “sessions”: a local teacher
advertises a set of classes around 6-8 weeks long, and looks for registrations
while perhaps allowing drop-ins if space.
Not many bigger-city studios operate like this, but it works here! And here is why I will continue to do that—
I love progressing a session: coming up
with a big idea, and exploring and progressing that idea for 7 weeks in a
class…a deep dive. It is so much more
interesting than the random class, scratching the surface. Topics have been Pilates this past fall,
based on the book “Breath” by James Nestor last winter, Scaravelli inspirations
in Yoga for Backs classes recently. I
want to continue this.
Studies and health-practitioners preach
consistency: with respect to yoga, consistent practice serves more over-time
than one class, workshop, retreat, or event – so signing up for a consistent
weekly practice over 7-weeks builds consistency, builds habit. That workshop, retreat, or event…can be
life-changing in a different way. So
jump at that, too, haha.
I do not want to handle money every week, I
want to teach yoga! So taking
registrations and money once per couple months is great.
But, I also know that a multi-week
commitment is difficult for many schedules.
With this new booking calendar, I foresee bringing back a 5-class pass
and more drop-ins as the availability will be clearly indicated here, and
people can grab their spots. And, I am
excited to have fully-registered students be able to make-up missed classes
again, grab spots and try a Monday night, a Thursday noon, whatever works!
